Indie Game Review: Tiny Dragon Story
Tiny Dragon Story is a cute little 1-bit game currently making its rounds on Itch.io. It shares a similar visual style to Gato Roboto. Tiny Dragon Story seems to be a Super Mario World black and white adventure. It has a few kinks that need to be worked out, but it was only recently released so there will probably be updates within the next month to correct any major faux pas.
One thing about Tiny Dragon Story I immediately noticed was the fun music. It’s fun to listen to while navigating the game’s short levels — although I’m always a sucker for a chiptune bop or two.
There does seem to be a curious shortage of heart drops on the enemies, and so far it’s unclear what the collected items and coins do. You don’t need all three items you can collect in a level to move on to the next, so they may just be cosmetic.
I think with a bit more time and work this will be quite the cute little game. Right now it’s free to play and won’t take too much time out of your day. Unfortunately, it does seem like the save features aren’t quite working, so don’t press the esc button, or your window will close and you’ll have to start all over again from the beginning. I will be delighted to return to this game again, once some of it’s bigger kinks have been worked out. I would also be curious to see if it adds a store you can spend your coins at for health or perhaps better fireballs.
If a timer is implemented down the road, it feels like a prime game to advertise to speedrunners as well.
Overall, Tiny Dragon Story is a cute free game and the music is quite nice to listen to while you adventure.
